Yesterday (Oct. 26) marked the 150th consecutive day that the Niño 3.4 sea surface temperature set a new record daily high, at 30.22°C (preliminary). This was more than 1.13°C above the previous record daily high set in 2015, as well as a record 3.49°C above the 1991-2020 baseline.

Ver postFour standard deviations from the mean is an extremely rare event that happens less than 0.01% of the time. 1% is one chance in 100 0.1% is one chance in 1000 0.01% is one chance in 10,000 It means that this event is unlikely to be purely random and is likely being driven by exogenous factor(s).
Ver postThe only known, proven exogenous climate factor happening now is AGW. In modern manufacturing if we got a variability signal over 3 sigma would would stop the process, find the source of the variability and fix it, then restart the process and prove that it has returned to normal variability.
Ver postBut we can't stop extreme weather events from happening while we fix the climate. And we can't fix the climate without admitting we broke it by pumping gigatons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and that we must stop doing this, right fucking now, or things will only get worse. Much worse.
