TL;DR: With a standard crew neck and enough breast frontage, a unisex crew neck gets stretched and curls inward, towards the skin, and rubs subtly above the collarbones. For a lot of women, it's psychological torture, like something's just starting to strangle you! The Princess collar fixes that.

Those "very loose crew" necks are the Princess neck types I mentioned. In addition to being wider from "point to point" on the shoulder seam, the knap of the collar is stitched to lay flatter across the collarbones, which helps with the sensory issue of "hate having something at my throat."
