Show PostI also tried looking at how a suite of form typicality measures (e.g., the typical properties of words for big things) from @dezubg.bsky.social's lab predicted iconicity. 👇
Show PostThe result was inconclusive, but interesting! Using a mediation model, I found that the indirect path from iconicity to specificity to RT was marginal (p = .055) for abstract words, but as predicted (iconicity -> specific -> slower). Maybe something worth further study!
Show PostThe relationship with specificity was the most nuanced and interesting. More specific verbs were more iconic, more specific adjectives were less iconic. For nouns it depended on whether they were abstract or concrete.
