New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Anand is the best (and I'm doing an event with him at, yes, @cityartssf.bsky.social Thursday, for his new book Man in the Mirror). Couldn't agree more that cities are refuges or places of last resort for people kicked out of rural/suburban/pseudo-idyllic America.

i am so tired of the imbalance that it creates. it's a variation on Brandolini's law: the energy needed to even read this bullshit is an order of magnitude greater than that taken to prompt a clanker to generate it. (2/3)

Every wednesday my husband cooks dinner for a group of pensioners, his dad and some of his parents pals. They are politically and financially mixed. All said they dont care about the triple lock but all want social care sorting.
