This slur, which in the UK is the historic equivalent of the N word in the USA, is really unbecoming. Could the same excellent point have been made without the racism?

The explanation offered is only perfect if you don't understand the slur. White people don't get to call themselves the N-word to describe how hard done by they are. This is no different.

The slur is very specific against people of color, and it's surprising that you, a respected information specialist, would gaslight like this in response to a polite suggestion to rephrase. If Ilves still wants to leave it up, that's on him.
