Originally an entirely different concept about levin and revenge that I never really explored. I wanted a name about storms and stuff. By the time I abandoned that concept like eight months into having the character, it felt too late to rename her lol. I still think about a different name sometimes.

Hotaru - she is literally a Sailor Saturn/Hotaru Tomoe expy from a Sailor Moon RP in my teens. Ren - Fishing through kanji for both true jp name and non-name pronunciations and found a kanji that is sometimes used for "pity" and sometimes pronounced "Ren". Mikoto - Her toon name is Mico Lash.

I'm actually not sure, Saragenel as a character is almost a decade old now and I'm still not even fully sure where the name came from. I suspect it's from an at-a-glance misreading of a traditional Xaela/Mongolian name, like Sarangerel.

I didn’t have any prior background in Eorzean onomastics, and was looking for something that economically conveyed “Small, bright-eyed, and a little uncomfortably intense.” “Strix” (Greek, “owl,” with a bonus connotation of “witch,”) fit the bill.
