Great thread. Huge props to both @tvrr.bsky.social for their focused, effective advocacy, and to OakDOT for actually trying to get more safe infrastructure in the ground faster. This is so much more important than gold plating every block. Quick build now!

In 2022, @tvrr.bsky.social and other Oakland safe street advocates made a push to tie Measure U - infrastructure bond - to bike and pedestrian plan improvements. The bond passed with wide margins but issuance was held up by internal DOF wrangling until December 2025. Do

This driver committed a serious crime. It can also be true that this crime could have been stymied by improved infrastructure. I refer you to @prinzrob.bsky.social providing the detailed history showing that OakDOT was ready to rebuild the street and OFD stepped in to insist that it remain wide. 😕
