If I’m remembering correctly, it was Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs.
Show PostEverything you said, plus gaslighting from my mother about “well that didn’t happen.” I got her to read a book written by someone that described his childhood abuse and when she finished it she said, “well, you didn’t have it that bad.” That was the closest she has ever been to admitting anything.

I ultimately chose not to cut off my mother, but I remember that playing out over and over again. If I came prepared, I was doing some sort of witchcraft with words. If I spoke in feelings, I was a child who couldn't be trusted. And all the discussions had to be 2 or 3 on 1.
