Then I think of the many students who know classmates are raising hands with AI-produced comments. Nobody wants to be a rat. So they’re coerced into complicity. Some, meanwhile, came for the discussion; they’re robbed. This isn’t a problem of certification, it’s one of community.

Today was hard. So, rather than doing what I planned, I revised my syllabus so that it’s more like my love letter to teachers, education, and young people. It now has a table of contents and 7 extra pages, but every assignment and section is full of love and care.

So many in media are ill-equipped to interview officials about what’s happening because they begin with the presumption of legitimacy and don’t know enough about history or U.S. foreign policy to foment intelligent pushback and hold officials accountable.
