The machine collects crash data and then that data is used to tweak the algorithm to try to prevent the same type of accident again. It’s not in Waymo’s best interest to not continuously improve their systems.

So? Why do we want to have a system that results more injuries on the public roads just so we can feel better about holding the people who cause those injuries personally accountable through incarceration? The goal should be a safer transportation approach.

Yes-in a complex system (like traffic patterns) inevitability there is going to be harm. Self driving cars make mistakes at a MUCH lower rate than humans. This is good. There should bd a mechanism to mitigate harm (eg self driving standards) and mechanisms to compensate victims — insurance
