I've got a handful of 5.25" drives knocking around, 3 for the BBC Micro, a Commodore 1541 (love the aesthetics on that) and two slimmer 1542-II's. These clunky drives make satisfying noises, though you need to scale up to the older 8" units for the full orchestra.

Wow, that's amazing, I didn't know you could solder using an oscilloscope probe. Or maybe it is designed to capture the magic smoke that is released when you accidentally short two pins together with the probe? Or is it an iron that has a 10x better soldering setting?

I've got a huge 40MB hard drive of a similar vintage in an Elonex 368 portable PC from the early 90s. It's hard to believe that less than 10 years later IBM would launch the Microdrive. A tiny compact-flash sized hard-drive. Minaturisation a Swiss clockmaker would be proud of.

This is the one I own. They are very small and cute. I think this came from some Apple music player product - a friend gave it to me. Mounts fine as a standard drive on the Linux box I'm writing this post on.
