I'm on strike this afternoon, along w TEU members nationwide. Not a long strike, but I hope symbolic of our resolve. I've been an academic for a decade. My pay has increased by less than inflation *every single year*. My professional staff colleagues are underpaid & denied clear career progression.

It's the difference in 'being concerned' and 'caring'. I am sure all in the room are in some way concerned. But most of them don't care (i.e., are concerned enough to act and implement, or even go the extra mile). All the more kudos to those that do, and those targets that are showing progress.

Huge mismatch between the plans and the political systems for sure. I do, however, believe there is an ambition gap as well. The ambitious in the room are the minority. The rest simply nod, fully aware of how the system works. If there was more sincere ambition, there would be more implementation.

This is one of the many reasons I advocate for better active and public transport. Walking, biking and sitting on a bus makes you notice the world. Cars separate us from it.
