He thinks the treasury is his money. And he doesn’t pay his bills. So there’s no way it’s happening. If the prediction markets weren’t rigged and entirely nauseating, I’d put money on it.

It's possible that he genuinely believed that Democratic politicians were committing lots of crimes. After all, the Republican politicians he'd worked for had been committing lots of crimes. "It's how the game is played." Once he got into the investigations, he discovered that it wasn't true.
