In other words, the expectation that “parent” is an inherent/permanent hierarchal role rather than a situational one, and one to whom benefits/submission should continue to flow even when it stops providing care/resources.

The moral panic about children cutting off abusive parents, OTOH, is about the expectation that parenthood provides permanent superiority in a hierarchy, that it remains a source of structural superiority even when the child no longer is vulnerable and requiring care/protection.

In other words, family hierarchy, when it’s healthy, is situational, not inherent. As an adult, you aren’t expected to continue obeying your father simply because he’s your father, let alone because he’s A father. You might respect him and even defer to him because of personal gratitude and love,
