What a superb article, what an astonishing essay on a miraculously preserved archive: the ethnographic records and other notes of S. An-sky, the maskil, the littérateur, the hyphenated Hebrew preserving a glimpse of a vanished world. Each time I thought it had peaked, it got better. And it's free!
