Warren, I am pretty sure that Christian never claimed Zappa or Art Zoyd as an influence (he preceded AZ bya decade). Obviously, his primary influence was John Coltrane, but also Tony Williams and Elvin Jones. He was pretty much sui generis.

I have my Magma grin on. I've seen them 3x, wrote about them in Option magazine in 1988 (interviewed Christian and Stella), met Christian at Martyr's in Chicago and own a picture that Herve Aknin sent me from that show. Magma just let all its female singers go and is now known as Zeuhl Kommandoh.
