The deeper historical context of everything typically isn't taught with a basic or even most higher educations outside the countries that have been vicitms of it. You'd to have a specialized focus they give so much importnt context and make everything it crystal clear and uncomplicated.

Also with just current observations, Zelenskyy probably didn't sign it because the terms would reward Russia for aggression, meddling, and stealing land, something that has made Russia a problem for the world for a long time and the part about him almost signing is probably bullshit.
