Even our really good 2e campaign that ran for a couple of years often had us arguing the case for getting bonuses on a roll because of the ease or routine of the task. The GM wants to provide a memorable challenge, so they just focus on the harder rolls, forgetting that there should be easier ones.
Show PostHands up if all your WFRP GMs (especially 1e) only ever had you make checks at baseline or added difficulty modifiers to it. ✋️ It's a pretty normal mindset for a GM to want to challenge their party, even though they're not in a "me vs them" mindset (but many are) so neglect the "easy" modifiers.
