Oh nice, that's a good way to catch it. A sheet for versions sounds like a lot of upkeep, though. I just try to keep mine in one place so I'm not hunting around.
Show PostOn Debian and Ubuntu I run needrestart -k. It compares the running kernel against the newest one installed and tells you if they differ. Checking uptime -s first also tells you if a reboot happened that you didn't plan.
