My one criticism of The Traitors is that it's based on the crime of murder. That's too extreme. We could maintain the same sense of lawless fun by instead having the traitors commit much smaller acts of criminality like loitering or using unlicensed software.

Many neutral observers would say that those aren't even crimes at all and even if they were, it shouldn't be held against the perpetrator. Especially if he had done a lot of good work in his community before and after these unfortunate incidents.

“Don't shoot the messenger” is not extensive enough advice on how to treat messengers. Don't make fun of messengers' hair either. Don't tickle them without their consent. Don't tell messengers who was banished on Traitors before they've seen it. There's so many things you shouldn't do to messengers.
