we were not allowed off the plane. international travel apparently has to go to a specific immigration stop. (furthermore ice must be abolished etc.) so we sat on the plane as they refueled and they switched pilots (because the pilot had been working too long.)

finally, at 8:30, we received word that newark was opened again. the lights dimmed, and we sat on the tarmac for another 45 gddamn minutes before the pilot deigned to tell us we were stuck behind a plane.
