I'm friends with one of my students parents, who invited me to his 8th birthday. I figured it was just out of politeness, but I've still got him a gift etc. His mum asked me today if I'd be able to make it and I said I wasn't sure (cos the driving lessons etc). She told me it's ok if I can't,
