We are very saddened to hear that our long serving Butterfly Recorder, Bill Shreeves, has died. He inspired so many people to get involved in recording for decades and will be badly missed. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time. A full tribute will be on our website soon

Feel very lucky to have timed a recent trip to Sydney perfectly to witness the spectacle of Bogong Moth (Agrotis infusa) migration. For the week or so I was there, every flowering plant on the coast seemed to be covered in moths.

This is a brilliant explanation of their paper. Butterflies avoid bird predation by having brightly coloured upperwings that fool birds they are going slower than they are. The comparison with the spiral barbers pole is genius. Add butterflies erratic flight means no birds have evolved to catch them

Up to Bodmin Moor today for @bc-cornwall.bsky.social work party at Jordan. We were predominantly working on the hillside, coppicing Hazel and managing the Bracken for Pearl-bordered Fritillaries. @savebutterflies.bsky.social

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Josef Settele, who was a founding Board member when BC Europe started in 2004. He was a great advocate for butterflies and inspiration to all our partners. We send our sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed
