What makes it somehow even more gross and galling is, after he goes back in time to explain his abhorrent behavior, in the *present* he’s just as bad, calling the release of the files pointless, and using quotation marks for “outcry.”

An actual letter of recommendation would be shared with the applicant. And would be written with the assumption that it would be widely viewed and probably part of a permanent record along with the applicants resume/CV/etc. I don't know what the eff that was. Creepy and improper at least.
