It's strange. Over nine million people voted Labour last time, quite a few of whom are deeply concerned about climate change. Yet one corporate lobbyist, Shell, turns out to have more votes than all of us. Doesn't seem quite normal.

Like build renewables under a publicly owned company that sells direct to the UK consumer rather than allow private providers to build energy infrastructure that destroys the climate and should soon be redundant to export to other regions of the world.

There is already more than enough fossil fuel being extracted to cover demand while we switch to alternatives. We should be accelerating the switch, not adding to the problem. And there is so much more the government could do, right now.

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.
