On the surface it feels like the same thing but what Nix gives you is a cast iron guarantee that either all your changes will be applied or none of them, and if they apply they’ll probably work. If they don’t you reboot and return to the old configuration unless you’re happy and tell it to stick.

imagine if all of your changes to your system from base including systemd services and dotfiles and random networking config and kernel modules were tracked in git and also had partial LSP support w/ the ability to cluster related parts together even if they're separate services
