My long term interest, now becoming more time consuming, is reading the philosophy of explanation in biology. I mean, we're teachers explaining biology and expecting students to learn and generate explanations. So, grasping what an explanation *is*, is a central and fundamental pursuit.

I think it’s important to remember that the world wizards are being taught to be part of is a violent dystopia in which the death rate at Hogwarts compares very favorably with that of going to a sporting event. If the real world is like that then Hogwarts can’t be like Mallory Towers.
