A. Because a model represents the definition of ONE entity. An entity is stored in a table that has a plural name because the table contains MANY entities. For example, the table 'groups' stores data for Group model. That's my logic in Laravel, and it applies to other frameworks as well.

Laravel is never the speed bottleneck, the database always is. If your app is large enough that PHP/Laravel are actually a bottleneck, then congrats to you for your massive success.
