Companies seem to be testing how much human judgment and labor they can replace with AI before customers notice a decline in quality. Some will discover customers tolerate lower quality more than they expected. I suspect many will end up rehiring people, as Ford did after facing record recalls.

the thing about "it's just 1% of your lifetime income" is that the math isn't even right. 30 grand as a lump sum today is not comparable to 30 grand as a share of lifetime earnings when you retire in 20 years, because of the little-known economic concept of "interest"
