Matt Darling is great because this one time I was VERY wrong in a snarky reply to him about a stat he shared about grand juries (I think), and he sent me a *genuinely nice and thoughtful* DM -- in 100% good faith -- to double-check to make sure we were both interpreting the dataset in the same way

I think a truly "life changing" amount of money for me would be 1-2 years worth of my current income which I could then use to quit my job and try to become a full-time novelist (probably a bad idea but whatever)

There are certainly some people in this country for whom this would be a life-changing sum of money. And I understand the subjective experience of feeling like $30k is life-changing. But this has actually been studied, and big windfalls tend not to be life-changing
