I read, write, hike, listen to music, and attempt to be a friend to people. That's what takes up most of my time. My wife and I live in southern Arizona, where a big wall of mountains looms in front of our house. It's beautiful, and I'm thankful for that.

It's a bitter irony. So much of what has come out of the World Cup is the reality of the diverse wonder of a nation that we really are, and in the midst of it are these dumbass voices that keep finding creative ways to tell us the whiter, the better. Less State Fair and more Cabo Verde, please.

Fell asleep last night watching a Tedeschi Trucks Band DVD. Twin guitars, bass, 2 drummers, 3 horns, 3 BGVs, a keyboardist who blows a mean flute. Musicianship off the charts. Must find a way to see them live someday.
