It feels very good to have been the editor who handled Soai's 1995 paper in Nature on autocatalytic amplification of an enantiomeric excess - now known as the Soai reaction. This seemed a curiosity at the time, but we clearly made the right call.

Vale Peter Barrett, an extraordinary Antarctic scientist and founder of the Antarctic Research Centre at Victoria University of Wellington. Peter was an early voice in New Zealand to raise awareness of climate change, and his work changed our understanding of Antarctica and Earth's climate history.
