Whether or not ppl cutting off their parents is an actual phenomenon (is it, really?) or just clicky outrage bait, anti-estrangement is a paternalistic, socially regressive position — it’s so similar to being anti-divorce that the two are virtually indistinguishable.

💯 amazing that the NYT in this and most of their farm country pieces regularly omits that 94% of farmland is operated by white people (who own 98% of the land). Racial issues are only indirectly touched upon (here re: slaughterhouse workers). It’s all about economic anxiety yet they still vote R 🤷‍♀️
