I think you're getting hung up on semantics. The only large sponsor that anyone knows about of Ruby Central recently has been Shopify, not to mention employees of Shopify have been on the board. If there's another large sponsor of Ruby Central nobody knows about, er, why? Who else is "funding" RC?
