Had a wonderful time visiting Lund University. Big thanks to Stefan Andersson for taking the time to discuss Göte Turesson, the Great Alvar of Öland, and his modern work on plant ecotype evolution.

In today's world, I cherish mistakes and awkward grammar in emails. They have become a sign that this person is real and didn't have an AI bot spam 10000 professors, or that they actually did read our paper about X, rather than lying about it. It's so hard to tell now. Strange world.

New paper out today! A beautifully simple experiment led by awesome undergrad Emma Gruntz showing how a single heatwave event can have long-lasting effects on population dynamics, caused first by reduced fecundity and then by increased mortality. @royalsocietypublishing.org doi.org/10.1098/rsbl...

I teach our biostats course. I love it. Students are always so worried about math and coding when the class starts and I love seeing their confidence grow by the end of class.

Yes! I also find that many “pedagogical simplifications” in Intro Stats need finessing, including what degrees of freedom and p-values represent, and what taking square roots does when converting variances into standard deviations. These can obscure the reasoning we want students to understand.
