3/5 With no clear locus for ombuds policy in government at present, it is time to bring coherence to a fragmented system. The Ethics and Integrity Commission are rightly reviewing this area.

2/5 Ombuds schemes investigate and resolve complaints about public authorities, providing redress for individuals as well as identifying systemic issues. The UK’s ombuds landscape matters for both public service improvement and individual redress, but it needs to change.
