I also feel others should consider following suit in terms of exploring other options beyond just performing at cons and maybe even try different types of music. As much as I love singing Japanese songs, even I get a little burned out from it sometimes. 😅 A bit of change would do anyone really good.

And while that is an issue, there were also moments where I don't get enough respect for what I do and how much I contributed to the community. Ultimately, that also played a major factor into why I walked away for good though I'm thankful other opportunities are available for me elsewhere.

To be honest, looking back at it, that's something I should have done back then by printing out my setlist and explaining to the staff how I want it to flow so they know the right cues. Would have made life so much easier for them. Unfortunately, cons not offering payment is the same over here.

I may no longer perform at conventions anymore, but I've made peace with it and my mental health has been for the best since then. And while I don't care about what goes on in the community, hopefully it's in a much better state than it was when I left although I still doubt not much has changed.

Whether it's monetary compensation or gift baskets (even a small token of appreciation is fine), all we want is to be appreciated for what we do and "exposure" is not enough. Obviously, PTSD was why I left the community, but plenty of other factors where I wasn't taken seriously would count too.
