Ben Franklin freed his slaves, and served as president of the PA abolition society. John Jay and Alex Hamilton founded the New York Manumission Society. Benjamin Rush founded the PA abolition society… to say the founders were pro-slavery as a whole is not accurate.
Show PostThat depends on which founders you are taking about. Washington, Jefferson, Madison, yes. Absolutely. But if you look at Franklin, Paine, Hamilton, etc… they were abolitionists and fought very publicly for the rights of freed slaves. Also the Adams’ who never own slaves and decried the institution.
