most of the people who are sniffing about the last year of AI spend simply do not understand that the goal was to find who could actually do something useful through the only way that most companies had available to them that was, obviously, never going to be a steady state. surprise!

Fortunately, that bridge itself is easy as heck to copy and make free. At this point pretty much everything that was gained from the initial pre-training is in fact, universally shared. Differences between models that people pay for are now all post training.
