I'm very honored that our research was covered by the New York Times! @alexaroblesgil.bsky.social wrote a beautiful piece that captures the science & mystery of cephalopod camouflage: www.nytimes.com/2026/10/12/s... I want to emphasize that this project is the result of an incredible team effort...

New work to share! Pangenome studies treat gene presence/absence independently, but genes work together in pathways. By focusing on the covariance of gene loss, we show the Arabidopsis dispensable genome has modular co-evolutionary structure reflecting the biological organization of the plant 1/

Super excited to share my postdoctoral work at @imbavienna.bsky.social @viennabiocenter.bsky.social - We discovered that some retrotransposons, or "jumping genes" 🧬, are able to spread from cell to cell via a new viral infectivity route. A short thread: 🧵👇 (1/7)

I am lucky enough to live by the Skagit wild & scenic river, which supports five salmon species, and in a state that has demolished the Elwha and other dams. I may not know how to paint salmon, but I know that a meandering river is good for the health of the ecosystem #sciartseptember meandering

I have released my most powerful & high-yielding corn yet. It has already escaped my field & invaded three soybean farms. I fear it will soon kill all humans. But rather than quit corn & work to stop the apocalypse, I'm releasing even better corn in 3 months. Meanwhile, please use corn responsibly.
