The huion frego is pretty good. It's no frills and doesn't have buttons, decent price, good stability. You might read reviews about surface bubbling but I think that's been phased out. Ive had one for over a year with no issues.

All my thumbnails are also on paper! Although they are very quick doodles on sticky notes that I then refine digitally
