But like... that's a profoundly stupid way to look at this? For most people $30k is the ability to buy a house, to escape debt, to get that medical procedure done, to simply have the runway to *breathe* for a second. It is absolutely *profoundly* life changing amounts of money for most people.

This is circling again, so one other point: People all around the world found inspiration in these books to stand up to authoritarianism in their own context, in ways big and small. JKR being a bigot now doesn't change that. The constant "the books sucked all along" does kind of undermine it.

I'd just like for reality to actually hold sway over both value and decision making. It just feels like once you reach a certain point of wealth, material reality no longer has any say in what happens and that is both a terrible way to do capitalism and dangerous for everyone below the line.

Look at the shabby state and increasingly authoritarian trajectory of the country and ask yourself if we can endure 2 more years of a lawless Trump administration wreaking havoc with no check from Congress, then vote accordingly. This is not the time for a protest vote or purity politics.
