After giving it a shot, I'm with middle school me: I like the original Dragon Ball and YuYu Hakusho more than broadcast DBZ. To be fair, I've heard Kai really really improves on it and I can believe that but damn, I wasn't expecting to bounce this hard.

And YYH is basically a perfect shonen show right up until you can start feeling the author get bored after the big tournament arc, but damn until the end of that it's such a fun ride, and the weaker second half of the series isn't even bad or anything.

I like to revisit things and I generally had been under the impression that DBZ was pretty snappily paced until they get to Freiza but...nope. I could *feel* the chapters being stretched as I watched it. Especially compared to OG Dragon Ball.
