So, always the resourceful and creative guy, over the course of a month, dad made me a quilt in the colors of the flag. His thought was if I wasn’t comfortable flying it outside because it would be misconstrued as a call for war, perhaps I could use it to keep me warm at night.

My favorite part is that he sewed this inscription into the back of the quilt: “10/01 “America” for Danna: in memory of 9/11/2001 and the negative feelings that surrounded the flying of the flag within academia at the time. I’m really proud of you. Xo Dad”
