I had already introduced aspen, pine and arbutus, while the yew (from Killarney) is new. I'm a big advocate of natural regeneration over planting, but clearly that can only work with species still present. Others that have been lost need to be brought back, using trees from as nearby as possible.

Last week on the way home from speaking engagements up country, I stopped into Bernard Carey in Clare, who grows trees from native Irish seed. Like a kid let loose in a sweet shop, this was the car all the way back to Beara, fully loaded with aspen, pine, arbutus and yew. They all belong here!
