I honestly think they DON'T remember. It's a thing brains do, we categorize information and discard what's not important. Stuff like "You lied to me repeatedly and violated clear boundaries I set" lands on the brain as "if this is true then I am bad, therefore untrue, therefore unimportant, delete"

a refrain in these articles is "these adult children can't deal with discomfort, they'd rather cut parents out entirely than have hard conversations!" 9 times out of 10, they're the ones trying to have those conversations, and the *parents* can't handle the discomfort.

this is also why i'm willing to give them a bit more grace while they awkwardly navigate me being queer. they are accepting, although still sometimes say things that hurt. but i've seen them willing to admit they were wrong before, and so i do believe that we'll get there on that too.
