@torarchive.bsky.social@torarchive.bsky.social → @tornadoarchive.comWanted to post on my own account about the work going on @tornadoarchive.com from Blue Ayanami, whose tireless work is uncovering a massive number of tornadoes in the 1800s. For example, there are now 60-70 tornadoes on 4/18/1880 and 3/27/1890, and over 100 (!!) in the 1884 Enigma Outbreak. (1/3)
Show PostPlus the map also has a few [likely] tornadoes sourced from newspapers in South America [namely Argentina and Uruguay] and a few dozen from 1880-1949 in NY and New England as part of a seperate project I'm still doing. I'll try to make it available if possible, but the QC would take a while to do
Show PostPlus it is also linked to my personal Google account, which i'd prefer keeping private as it uses my real name and my email which I use for my job among other private things. I could share it to a burner account, make a copy of it, and send a link to it at some point in the future after running QC
Show Post[2/2] I think the wonderful people from @tornadoarchive.com will find this to be of good use, as Indonesia is one of the countries with somewhat frequent tornadoes that currently lacks coverage on their site. Link to the article and dataset: nhess.copernicus.org/articles/25/...
Show PostJust discovered @tornadoarchive.com I was able to look up info on the Feb 10, 2009 tornado that my family and I had to shelter from. Check out the explorer here: tornadoarchive.com/explorer Awesome work! Super awesome tech. In particular, this tornado sounded like a freight train as it went by.
