Nice post. And I think the point about taxation also applies to something like a fair share of the global carbon budget. Like it or not this would include a decline in consumption of goods for hundreds of millions of people and can't be handwaved away.

I think dogmatism in general is an excessive desire for internal consistency. The more mental effort I used to put in to internal consistency, the less I had left for external consistency (with facts / the real world). I eventually decided to worry less about internal consistency.

“But nobody likes being incoherent”. This is not true in my experience. I hate it but I find a lot of people hate being *thought* or *shown* to be incoherent. The state itself is fine.

I like to say that the left is a coalition of people oppressed by circumstances and people oppressed by conscience (though most of us are some combination of both) and that this is an inherently unstable combo
