Species spotlight. Carline Thistle - Carlina vulgaris is found in dry calcareous grasslands. It has purple tinged stems & composite flowers surrounded by a ring of pale bracts that open & shine golden. Dark purple florets wither leaving conspicuous orange scales. 📷 Ava Marley

Few classic toadstool-like fungi at a very dry @bbowt.bsky.social Dancersend reserve but still interesting fungi on trees. A fallen beech was covered with Phlebia tremellosa and I love how it 'captures' and grows around the beech leaves. Nearby Wood Cauliflower growing from roots of an old larch.
