I thought Chandra 2, one of the best OCR tools, failed catastrophically. It turns out the PDF compression failed and made it impossible to read a sentence. Under this condition, VLM OCR models hallucinate. I'm hoping I can use the Archive.org text layer to help detect this in the future.
